girls are a funny breed

I met my roommate, M, in May 2008 on Facebook Marketplace. I was living with three girls in a 4 bed/2 bath apartment and hating every moment of it. I don't deny that I'm more than a little hard to please, but after several bouts of flu, scabies, and strep I knew it was time to get the hell out. My current roommate advertised an amazing apartment in a perfect location right off campus, all for hundreds less than I was paying at the time. Needless to say, I ditched the girls and moved in less than a month.

Since moving in with M in June 2008, we've had one conversation that lasted longer than two minutes. The past year was her senior year, and my 21st year of being alive, so I stayed drunk and she stayed at the library. Not much time was left for getting to know each other, or maybe we just didn't make time. Whatever the case is, I don't know her middle name, I don't know what her plans are now that she's graduated, and if not for Facebook, I wouldn't know when her birthday is. Sure, my gal-pal skills leave something (okay, a lot) to be desired, but seriously? Should I have to feel awkward every time we're in the same room? Because I do. Our lease is up the first of August, and I have a feeling that we'll never speak again after she moves out. She's the first roommate I've ever had that I don't find completely repulsive, so it makes me a little sad to know that she (probably) hates me. Next time, maybe I'll do better?

  1. At the very least, the drama level was kept very, very low. I'd consider that a successful match!

(I lost more friends by moving in with them. It's not a good idea to be "friends" with roommates)

  4. Roommates are crazy. I had four for two years and we were all nuts, in the best possible way.

I'm glad you stopped by my new blog and that you liked it!! Really appreciate it! Keep reading and tell me what you think of my whole mess of a life. Ha.

    Thanks again!!

  5. I dunno... after living with so many friends that went so horribly wrong, I think you might actually have had the perfect situation there. :-)

  6. Haha. This sounds like me and one of my dorm roomies...except she partied and I was in the library. ;) You may be surprised. We hang out a lot more now that we don't live together. Lol.
